Caps/Habs Game 5

Early goal for the Canadiens. Mike Cammalleri with the tally. His third of the series. 1-0 Montreal.

Another ex-Norfolk Admiral making noise up in D.C. Travis Moen beats Varly with a backhander from the low slot. 2-0 Habs.

Caps come close to tying the game on the ensuing shift but Halak stands tall.

Ryan O'Byrne in the box for Montreal. Caps get to try and cut the lead in half. Just about 11 minutes to go in the 1st.

Canadiens with more pressure on the Caps even a man short. Lots of desperation for Montreal and they are playing well. Plekanec off for slashing so the power play continues for Washington.

Washington takes a penalty and after a short 4-on-4, the Habs go a man up for about 1:30. No joy for Montreal but both special teams units look really good so far.

Big time pressure by the Caps on a shift with about 4:30 to go. Halak stops everything.

Iffy call on Mike Green for holding. Habs to the power play with 3:35 to go in the 1st. Disjointed power play this go 'round. In the mean time, things are getting nasty after the whistles. Refs trying to reel it in and Josh Gorges gets to sit.

Penalty will carry over to the 2nd period. The nastiness remains even as the period comes to an end.

The 2nd period has yet to start due to some camera equipment issues. Everyone standing around.

Early in the second, the puck deflects about 3 times from the point. Halak makes the stop but Ovechkin is there to tap it home. Caps cut the lead in 1/2. 2-1 Montreal.

Halfway through the 2nd and Washington is on the power play with about 23 seconds remaining. Halak just made a few big stops to keep it 2-1.

Pretty tight checking affair as the 2nd period comes to a close. Washington outshooting the Habs 26-19. Halak has 20 minutes left to hopefully go back to Montreal and play another 60.

5 minutes into the 3rd and the Caps have had some glorious chances to tie it spoiled by Halak. He does some more of that during a Caps power play. 12 minutes left in the 3rd.

Caps throwing the kitchen sink at Halak and he won't break. Game still 2-1 Montreal with less than 10 minutes to go.

Little bit less than 3 minutes to go. Caps are gonna throw 2 kitchen sinks at Halak to try and tie it up. I expect him to have to make at least one more huge stop for the Canadiens to play on.

Even with the bench blunder by the Caps it almost ends up tied. They pull the goalie (correctly this time) to make it 5-on-5 and almost get the tying goal with less than 3 seconds to go.

Monday, Bell Centre, Montreal Quebec, Canada. Game 6 and attempt #2 for the Caps to eliminate the Habs.
